Walking along King George Street in Jerusalem, it was this little corner kiosk that made me stop. The faded red awning, fruit stacked beside the window, old stone walls, graffiti, refrigerators filled with drinks, and afternoon light falling across the pavement all came together in one small scene.

There is nothing monumental about it, and that's exactly what I liked.

Jerusalem is filled with architecture and history that immediately demand attention. But while exploring the city with my camera, I was equally interested in the quieter pieces of contemporary life.

The deep red awning dominates the frame, while the pale Jerusalem stone, green fruit, handwritten signs, graffiti, glass, and strong sunlight add smaller layers of color and texture.

Even the shadow across the awning became part of the composition.

It's an everyday Jerusalem street scene, but one that felt full of character.

The Details That Give a City Its Identity

I think you get to know a city differently when you start paying attention to what exists between its landmarks.

A worn storefront. A chair outside a kiosk. Fruit waiting beneath a window. Signs in Hebrew. Someone disappearing around the corner.

Those details aren't usually what people travel across the world to see, yet they're often the things I remember most clearly afterward.
