Trusting the Unknown

Not seeing the whole path doesn't mean there is no direction. Some trails only reveal themselves as you climb, changing the landscape with every step.

Even solid stone is carved by time. Staying grounded isn't about remaining static. It's learning to stay firm while the world shifts and shakes.

It doesn’t require a clear map to keep moving. Sometimes the summit gains its meaning from the climb.

Mount Lycabettus in Athens: A View Across the City

Looking Towards Mount Lycabettus in Athens

One of the things I loved about photographing Athens was how often the landscape suddenly appeared between the buildings.

Mount Lycabettus in Athens is a perfect example. Rising above the dense city, the hill creates a striking contrast with the seemingly endless layers of white apartment buildings below.

I photographed this view with the rocky remains of ancient Athens in the foreground. For me, that layering is what makes the scene interesting: stone, modern city, green hillside, and mountains all existing within a single frame.

A Different View of Athens

Athens is often photographed through its ancient landmarks, especially the Acropolis and Parthenon. But Mount Lycabettus in Athens offers another visual landmark that is just as characteristic of the city's landscape.

The hill rises sharply from the surrounding neighborhoods, with the small white Chapel of St. George visible at its summit.

From a distance, it almost feels separate from the city. Look closer, though, and you see how tightly Athens has grown around it.

That contrast between nature and urban density was what caught my attention.

Layers of Athens Architecture and Landscape

The ancient stones create a rough foreground. Behind them, modern Athens stretches across the frame in tightly packed layers. Then Mount Lycabettus in Athens rises above everything, covered in green and illuminated by the warm Mediterranean light.

Even farther away, the mountains create another layer along the horizon.

It's a view that brings together several sides of Athens at once and shows just how closely the city's architecture, history, and natural landscape are connected.

Photographing Mount Lycabettus

When I'm walking through a city with my camera, I'm often looking for compositions where different elements unexpectedly come together.

This view of Mount Lycabettus in Athens had exactly that.

Rather than photographing the hill in isolation, I wanted the surrounding city to remain part of the image. The apartment blocks give the landscape its scale, while the stones in the foreground connect the contemporary city with the much older Athens beneath it.

For me, those relationships are often more interesting than a perfectly isolated landmark.

Mount Lycabettus Athens Fine Art Print

This photograph of Mount Lycabettus in Athens is also available as a fine art print.

For someone who has lived in Athens, travelled there, climbed Lycabettus Hill, or simply feels connected to Greece, it can be a reminder of the city's distinctive landscape — where ancient ruins, modern neighborhoods, mountains, and Mediterranean nature are never very far from one another.

It's the Athens I enjoyed discovering with my camera: layered, imperfect, and full of unexpected perspectives.
