Florentin is one of those neighborhoods where I find myself looking in every direction.

Walk a few streets and you’ll find murals covering entire walls, small drawings hidden beside doorways, stickers layered over old signs, and painted shutters that only reveal themselves when the shops are closed.

This photograph was taken on HaShuk Street in Florentin, where the artwork immediately caught my attention. The strange red character stretches across the shutter, surrounded by another colorful piece, bicycles, climbing plants, and the worn textures of the building itself.

It’s exactly this mixture that makes photographing Florentin so interesting to me.

An Outdoor Gallery That Keeps Changing

What I like about street art in Florentin in Tel Aviv is that it rarely exists on its own.

The artwork becomes part of the street around it. A bicycle gets parked in front of a mural. Plants grow across a wall. Paint fades. A shutter opens in the morning and the artwork disappears, only to return when the shop closes again.

Nothing feels overly polished or separated from everyday life.

And because street art is temporary, returning to the same street months or years later doesn't necessarily mean finding the same thing. Something may have faded, disappeared, or been painted over completely.

Photography becomes a way of holding onto one version of the neighborhood before it changes again.

Photographing HaShuk Street in Florentin

In this scene, I was drawn not only to the street art itself but to everything happening around it.

The blue wall, bright characters, cream-colored shutter, old brickwork, greenery and bicycles create layers of color and texture. Individually, they are ordinary details of a street. Together, they tell a much richer story about the place.

That's one of the things I enjoy most about Tel Aviv street photography. I’m not necessarily searching for the biggest mural or the most famous work. Often, it’s a smaller scene that makes me stop because the art, architecture and everyday details suddenly come together.

Exploring Florentin Through Photography

Florentin rewards walking slowly.

Its graffiti and street art can be found throughout the neighborhood, but so can old industrial buildings, cafés, workshops, balconies, signs, plants and countless small details that give the area its personality.

For me, photographing Florentin isn't simply about documenting its murals. It's about capturing what it feels like to wander through a neighborhood where creative expression has become part of the streets themselves.
