Finding freedom (Walter Süskindbrug at Amsterdam’s Amstel river)

Finding freedom

Letting go is a necessary step towards achieving individual freedom. However, it often comes with a price. Finding genuine liberty demands releasing the burdens that trap you in outdated times.

While letting go can be a joyful experience, it can also be incredibly painful because, at times, you must mourn for what was once dear to your heart.

However, it is an essential component of the journey, enabling you to unearth your limits and define yourself as an individual. Because in the end, understanding and expressing yourself within your own boundaries is the ultimate freedom.

Walter Süskindbrug at Amsterdam’s Amstel river

The Walter Süskindbrug in Amsterdam is a beautiful pedestrian bridge over the Amstel River and a symbol of the city's resilience and determination to preserve its rich history. In 1962, the original bridge was found to be deteriorating, prompting the city to embark on a renovation project. However, the task was not easy, as the municipality had to navigate a complex web of regulations and ensure that the new bridge would blend in with the surrounding architecture.

Despite the challenges, the city persevered, opting for a classical-looking bridge that better suited the environment. The renovated Walter Süskindbrug now stands as a testament to Amsterdam's commitment to history and progress. The bridge not only honors the legacy of Walter Süskind, a German Jew who played a crucial role in saving Jewish children during the Nazi occupation of Amsterdam in World War II.
